Why you need a marketing plan
Everyone wants to enjoy business success. But how many businesses actually succeed? We often hear the statistics of how many businesses fail within the first 12 months of operation and we also hear stories of businesses, which have seen tremendous success within a very short period in time.
What are the reasons for success or failure within a business? The answers are varied but what is definite is that the ones that truly succeed have well planned and well executed marketing plans. Businesses that adopt these methodologies are able to look at their businesses from the outside. This enables them to identify a multitude of scenarios and hidden problems or opportunities, which may arise.
So what does a marketing plan consist of?
A Marketing plan covers much more than just a way in which to promote your business. It should include the following:
- Information about your business
- SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats)
- Information about your products and services
- Mission statement & Unique Selling Proposition
- Aspirations on what you want for your business
- Understanding your clients and their goals
- Knowing your competitors and their products and services
- Research and development on your specific industry
- Sales and marketing strategies on how to achieve your goals
- Related costs and budgets
- Sales forecasts and expectations
It is important to remember when compiling a Marketing Plan that you are realistic and honest with your expectations and evaluations because only then will you allow your business every opportunity to succeed.
Don’t fall into the trap of writing long-winded notes, which make it difficult for you to follow. It is much easier to write an effective plan, which is to the point and provides you an easy template to execute.
